In the summer of 2013, Cash and I will be travelling across the American states in search of culinary challenges. Between us, we aim to win plenty o' T-Shirts and have our names blazoned upon the walls of fame. From now until then, we need to book our tickets, work out a route and indulge in some pre-arrival challenges here. Luckily, one of us has a food outlet of their own, where new and exciting recipes are always being invented and one of us has a stomach of steel ready for the spicy ones. We shall be updating this blog with our home and away conquests and triumphs, as well as stories of food babies, food contractions and food comas!

Day 10 - Winneucca to Garden Valley, Idaho

So we're up and will be meeting Mazza E and Spence later on tonight in Idaho. But first, a breakfast pitstop at Sid's Diner. This looks like your typical American diner, complete with exposed kitchen and coffee refills and lovely waitresses, who are the kind who call you 'gal'.

I have the meatloaf sandwich and fries and a pepsi - 6.5/10. Quite filling but very starchy. Am actually craving something green and fresh- WTF?! I think this must be the first time I've said this! Cash has some blueberry pancakes x2 - 7/10
Southern fried steak w/country gravy, Hashbrown, Canadian bacon, which are circular and look (and taste) like gammon - 5/10 and a coffee.

The view from the car is beautiful, full of mountains and vast landscape. We've been in contact with Henry and Maria and the plan is to have a BBQ tonight when we get to the cabin. They are driving from Yellowstone way. We should both arrive about the same time. Cash has forgot to take the exit a couple of times on this road so we're just going back and forth to Winnemucca but eventually we make it onto the correct road and we're off. Lots of tumbleweed - it's like a scene out of a western!

We shall be crossing a few states. The first one we hit after Nevada is Oregan followed by Idaho. Our ETA is 630pm.

We stop off briefly for some bug spray and repellent before we enter the countryside good and proper and I notice that my dreadlocks are back but I'm kinda digging them! Cash has fumigated the whole car on account of being a big scaredy cat when it comes to bugs! Hehe! My bites are still red raw and swollen but after bite (after the fact) seems to be helping a bit.

We arrive at the cabin office and there is a little note from Maria saying they've gone up to the cabin and to meet them there...oooh a treasure hunt! It is amazing! The surroundings are beautiful. We have some lovely marinaded chicken on the BBQ and salad for dinner followed by a couple of hours in the bubbling Hot tub, where we converse and drink plenty of beers with a star-lit sky above us. We even see several shooting stars - so magical. At about 3am, we decided it's bed time. Friday will be a relaxing day with a trip down to Boise and some sun worshipping.
