In the summer of 2013, Cash and I will be travelling across the American states in search of culinary challenges. Between us, we aim to win plenty o' T-Shirts and have our names blazoned upon the walls of fame. From now until then, we need to book our tickets, work out a route and indulge in some pre-arrival challenges here. Luckily, one of us has a food outlet of their own, where new and exciting recipes are always being invented and one of us has a stomach of steel ready for the spicy ones. We shall be updating this blog with our home and away conquests and triumphs, as well as stories of food babies, food contractions and food comas!

Day 6 - Las Vegas to San Francisco

Got up this morning after being dazzled by the Las Vegas lights and decided to head to San Francisco, about 700 or so miles to the West. But first, a pit stop back to Hot N Juicy Crawfish. Inclusing us, there are 6 groups of people tucking in to the deliciousness. Have gone for 1lb of shrimp cajun style extra spicy -8/10. Cash has gone for a 1lb of crawfish medium hot n juicy sauce 4/10. Cajun fries to share with refills. I don't wanna leave without trying all the spicy ones so...another pound of shrimp to share Louisiana Extra Spicy sauce (am secretly praying that these many prawns won't give me the shits) - 6/10 Am wearing the customary bib and some gloves (Cash has tripled up) although managed to cover myself in sauce. Good shit tho! It's getting busier and busier as we near lunchtime. Couples, workers, families, old, young - this place is amazing! Oh, before I forget, another name of chilli brand that pops into my head is the Ass Blaster Chilli! We finish up and jump in the car. It is HOTTTT!!! But we have a bit of water, my ipod and a book of conversation starters - we are golden! Nearing Mojave-may have contracted herpes from a rather yellow toilet seat. Did my best to hover but dunno! Arid, picturesque and barren - best describes where we are right now. 6pm and 88 degrees outside. 6 hours to go til San Francisco. I'm on 3 hours sleep and getting a little tired and worried about getting deep vein thrombosis (on top of my herpes) but Cash is a machine! Bought a map, opened it but trying to put it back together is like a game of sudoku. Don't even think I've done it properly! It's as big as the dashboard and has about a million folds in it!! Just seen a sign that says 'Reduce speed when wet' tee hee hee! 634pm. Smells of cow and what I imagine sweaty bull bollocks to smell of-musky, masculine and salty. 80 deg fahrenhait....it's getting a little cooler. ETA: 1159pm. 35miles to CA-58 W/CA-99 N (Sacramento) Warnings for bears, rattle snakes and tortoises! We are in the middle of what looks like where they filmed brokeback mountain. Seen a few horses and ranches but no real cowboys. Stopped for a wee at services. Got a personal pan cheese pizza from pizza hut. Picture made it look very different. I thought I was getting a pie but instead, I got a bog standard pizza - It wasn't that great - 3/10. Very greasy and nowt special. Looking forward to a NYC pizza/pizza pie! 747pm - start of beautiful sun set. Gorgeous. We are 4 and a bit hours away from San Fran and will need to either find a cheap motel or sleep in the car! Still 200+ miles away. Will be driving for 2more hours and see where that lands us, find a cheap motel and rest up til morning. Then hit the freeway for San Fran! Ketterman City - motel $77 for the night. Scary, dirty, toilet needed fixing, expecting cops to break down the doors. Notice saying wifi not working but it IS cricket season so we cannot keep doors open for very long! Ted is on. Perrfect TV viewing. It feels like we have gone back in time. They've got a fat TV, old skool phone and decor. I feel both dirty and like Doctor Who (I don't know if that analogy is right...does he travel back in time?) Tomorrow, we head out for San Francisco!
